16 Weeks~ yummm Avocado

Update~ Had our 16 week OB appointment yesterday.. amid the foot of snow that had fallen that morning. Thanks to Clint for driving his emotional pregnant wife to the Dr. once they said we could not reschedule until January. We talked to the Doc more about the abnormal 1st trimester screening results. He continued to relay that there is only a 2% chance of "Bean" having Down's. He showed us the lab results... as I had expected due to Dr. Goggle... my Hcg was elavated and my Papp-A was low. These two abnormalities in the blood work together with my age gave us the increase risk. Dr. G is cool with his Iphone and pulled up the age related risks in relation to our 1:50 risk. For my age our risk of Trisomy 21 (Down's) is 1:187... or any Trisomy is 1:103. The other Trisomy's 13 and 18 are often uncompatible with life. Our risk of the other Trisomys is like 1:6000. Dr. G offered the Quad Screen blood test, but stated that they would only be testing for the Spina bifida portion of the test. Since with KK's pregnancy this test produced a "positive" result, we declined the blood work. I was unsure if they also screen for other factors of Trisomy 21 in that test, however Dr. G stated that once you have a positve screen in the 1st trimester that they advise against future blood testing later as the results will continue to be off. So we will just be considered "positive" in respect for a neural tube defect... which is fine with me as they will be able to tell at the ultrasound if anything is wrong with "beans" spine. When all is said and done... the High Hcg, the low Papp-A are probably indicators of a placenta issue, pre-term labor or risk of high blood pressure during pregnany. Well... let's see... KK had a placenta issue, I already have High blood pressure and with pre-term labor I'll be checked often through ultrasound already with the other issues. Guess we will just have to see how the ultrasound goes on January 4th. Dr. G did urge us to have it done in Colorado Springs at Children's Hospital... to be honest I think this was a "CYA" thing on his end. The ultrasound tech at the office is awesome so we will just have it there. Dr. G did also say that by having the scan early, 18 weeks as to 22 weeks that some healthy babies have some of the markers that they would be looking for that end up resolving themselves. I am willing to have the ultrasound early and then if things are seen follow up with the new OB in South Dakota in February.  So hears to a great ultrasound on the 4th!! Happy Holidays, Jen :)

How far along? 16 weeks 6 days
EDD: 6/3/12
Weight gain/loss:  Not really sure I like going to the Dr. in the afternoon after eating lunch... or dressed in winter attire for the two feet of snow we got... that's the "reason" my weight was up! :)
Next Ultrasound: January 4th
Size of baby:  An Avocado... and boy does that sound good.
Gender: Hopefully we will get a peek on the 4th.
Maternity clothes? sweats work just as good when you are at home. Guess I can suffer through 8 hours a day in tight pants at work for now :)
Stretch marks:  Just the old ones.
Sleep: Been falling asleep around 9:30... getting up around 1am... falling back asleep about 2:30am and then up with KK around 6am.
Best moment this week: Dr. G. finding "Beans" heartbeat right off on Thursday... 156 beats per minute.
Food cravings: Saw someone post a recipe for spinich artichoke dip on facebook the other night... Gonna have to make that soon!
Pregnancy Signs: Sore boobs, Zits and all day hunger. Oh and lots of back pain. Also having some Round Ligament Pain... aka for growing uterus.
Movement: Really thinking I'm feel'in the "Bean". Lots of bumps around my belly button, right where Dr. G found the heartbeat yesterday.
What I miss: Mt. Dew
What I am looking forward to: Ultrasound on January 4th and Christmas.
Weekly Wisdom:  You really need to be proactive in your own care. Tell the Dr. what you want and when you want it... it's your health and your body.

Next Ultrasound: Probably not until we get to South Dakota in January at 20-22 weeks.

Gender: I'm really starting to think that I just don't want to know... wouldn't it be good to have one surprise at the end???
Maternity clothes? Yes please :)
Stretch marks:  Just the old ones.
Sleep: If I didn't have to pee three times during the middle of the night it would be great!
Best moment this week: Using up some of my sick time at work before the move that I won't get paid for.
Food cravings: Saw something on TV last night about Banana Bread and thought... YUMMM!
Pregnancy Signs: Lots of pee... my face is covered in zits (more than normal) and I'm totally growing out and wider.
Movement: Maybe a few bumps here and there.
What I miss: Nothing really this week.
What I am looking forward to: Appointment with Dr. G next week on the 22nd.
Weekly Wisdom:  On Dr. Oz yesterday while I was home with KK he had a special about pee and poop... interesting to know what it is suppose to look and smell like... Crass, I know! But when you are pregnant these things are on your mind :)

Week 14~ the joy of parenthood... worry.

So before I get to the weekly update thingy I want to write about something else. I've debated if I was going to share this on here or really share it with anyone. I don't want to cause undo worry on family and friends. But we got some news last Wednesday from Dr. G that is a little bit concerns regarding the "bean". Eventhough our ultrasound looked good (which by the way is VERY positive), there was something amiss in my bloodwork that came back that "bean" has a 1:50 chance of having Down Syndrome. Now when you see those numbers it does look a little scary... but my normal age related risk is 1:120. The factors that take into account for the ratio is maternal age, ultrasound, bloodwork (specifically testing for HCG and PApp-a), if you are diabetic and your weight. Well with four of those five things against me it is not surprising I guess to see a greater risk. Now you also have to remember that a 1:50 chance also means that there is a 98% chance that everything is fine with "bean"... something that Dr. G related over and over to me that night :) So since we are not interested in terminating this pregnancy for any reason and the risk of having an amino are a 1% risk of miscarriage we have decided to go ahead with further noninvasive screening. This includes more blood work at 16 weeks (which by the way if you remember KK's pregancy gave us a higher probablity that she would have a neuro-tube defect for the same reasons as this "positive" downs screening... testing based on Age, weight, diabetes and bloodwork... she is perfect!) We will also have another advanced level 2 ultrasound between 20 and 22 weeks that will look for other "soft markers" for downs syndromes... things like problems with the heart, kidneys and different measurements of body parts. All these things really won't change the outcome... if "bean" has downs... we'll deal with it! We'll love him/her (I'm still thinking boy by the way) and will do what is necessary to make that birth the best for "bean". Now I have also spent a great deal of time thinking about if I even really want the rest of the testing... but if markers do show downs... it is best to deliver in a facility that can deal with potential problems with heart and kidneys. So that all being said and put out there for the world to read... Do I think "bean" has downs... No, the odds are with us for now. Do I think that we need to have further testing to prepare ourselves... Yes... it is the responsible worrying parent thing to do :) So... be with us in thought and prayer and we'll keep ya updated... but for now I'm going to enjoy my pregancy, stay off of google (which btw is evil) and think of the 98%! Much love, Jen :)

How far along? 14 weeks 5 days
EDD: 6/3/12
Weight gain/loss:  +7... lost 2.
Next Ultrasound: Probably not until we get to South Dakota in January at 20-22 weeks.
Size of baby:  Lemon
Gender: Maybe someday we'll know :)
Maternity clothes? Been asking for some for Christmas... fun present huh? :)
Stretch marks:  Just the old ones.
Sleep: Not as tired as previous weeks. But KK has been getting up early and this makes me a little more sleepy during the day. Maybe I need a pillow under my desk!
Best moment this week: Getting pics with KK for Christmas.
Food cravings: Nothing really... kinda back to eating normal.
Pregnancy Signs: The other night I woke up sleeping on my back. I ran my hand across my belly when I was about to roll over. I could totally feel my uterus up by my belly button and it was as hard as a rock. Then I rubbed my hand across it and felt another small bump to the left. I remember when I was pregnant with KK and she was much larger I would feel that. So I rubbed the little "lump" and it disappeared! It was totally "bean" laying there all up high... I said "good morning" :)
Movement: Maybe... but I'm going to wait a couple more weeks to say for sure.
What I miss: The worry-free-ness of not being pregnant.
What I am looking forward to: Making our move and getting settled into a new home and Church.
Weekly Wisdom:  Worrying doesn't make it any better :P

Unexpected blessing...

So we had our regular check up yesterday with Dr. G. We went over all my blood sugars and I don't have to take my blood pressure med for now as it is getting too low... yeah!  At the end of the visit we went to find the baby's heartbeat with the doppler.... Nope.  I am only 13 weeks and well...overweight... so it wasn't totally unexcepted... but still a little scary. So since the doppler didn't work we waited for our fabulous ultrasound tech Trina. She got us in and found "Beans" little heart beating away at 148. The blessing in all of it is that the baby was still cooking in there... and Trina was able to get all the measurements needed that she was not able to get last week! So it looks like "Bean" is doing good in there and from the nuchal fold measurement she got most likely doesn't have any chromosomal defects. She also went straight for a sex guess again... dum dum de-dumm... no good guess again!!! The cord was between "Beans" legs, it had its feet up there and from different angles it looked like both sexes! Sooo... guess we will all just be in suspense a while longer. I'm starting to think maybe we should just wait till birth to find out???

Week 13~ Stubborn Child

How far along? 13 weeks 3 days
EDD: 6/3/12... but baby measured six days ahead yesterday
Weight gain/loss:  +9
Next Ultrasound: Dr. G is going to decided if I can have the Anatomy scan at 19 weeks before we move... so maybe second week of January.
Size of baby:  This website I was on said at 13 weeks it is the size of a medium shrimp
Gender: Who knows....  Had another shot at seeing yesterday, but with the cord between the legs and different looks from different angles... it is still a mystery!!  Maybe we should just not find out at all??
Maternity clothes? I think I need to start looking.
Stretch marks:  Just the old ones.
Sleep: Maybe a little less tried, but still exhausted!
Best moment this week: Getting to see "Bean" again unexpectedly yesterday.
Food cravings: A lot of the same as with KK... Cheese, cereal, meat.
Pregnancy Signs: Not too many left... except being tired.
Movement: Don't think so... except some belly tightness every once in a while.
What I miss: Found something I don't have to miss in this pregnancy... Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks... They now have sugar free peppermint and mocha... yummmm!
What I am looking forward to: Lunch :)
Weekly Wisdom:  So at our appointment yesterday Dr. G could not find the baby's heartbeat with the doppler thingy... his wisdom to me and his med student as he noticed both of us starting to get nervous during the process... "Jen knows not to freak out until I start to freak out." Oh how I will miss Dr. G :(

Week 12~ Non- compliant

We had our 12 Week Nuchal Translucency ultrasound today! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuchal_scan It was so good to see that baby was doing well and kicking and playing away in there :) Maybe playing a little too much, as baby did not want to cooperate with the testing and measurements that needed to be done! Ultrasound lady Trina did say that the baby looked good. Heart rate of 158 and was measuring about 4 days ahead of schedule. So really all this means by baby not cooperating is that we won't get sure results about any abnormalities until later and only through blood work. Our ultrasound lady Trina is sooo sweet... she tried hard to get us a good sex guess... she seemed to be more excited to know than us! But baby really didn't cooperate for that either, but both clint and I thought we saw something and Trina thought she did too... she thought if she had to "guess" she would say Boy... guess we will have to wait and see in about 6 to 8 weeks!
Here is a side profile with hand on face.

Here is the Alien or Bride of Chucky shot... front on face with two little hand on chest.
How far along? 12 weeks 3 days
EDD: 6/3/12... but baby measured at 5/30/12 today
Weight gain/loss:  +8
Next Ultrasound: Maybe in about six weeks
Size of baby:  Ultrasound lady says about 3 inches
Gender: Ultrasound lady Trina tried really hard to get a good peak... I think she wanted to know more than us :)  Baby was very uncooperative today, but she said if she has to guess... guess would be Boy.
Maternity clothes? Not so much.
Stretch marks:  Just the old ones.
Sleep: Maybe a little less tried, but still exhausted!
Best moment this week: Seeing that little bean is growing strong in there. Heart beat of 158 today.
Food cravings: Nothing specific... unless at this point EVERYTHING can be a craving! :)
Pregnancy Signs: Have really decreased. Still get a little nausea in the afternoon and still pretty tired.
Movement: Maybe it was just gas :)
What I miss: As much as I LOVE sleep... this extreme tiredness is getting a little old.
What I am looking forward to: Going Facebook offical :) and looking forward to our move to SD in January.
Weekly Wisdom:  "So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.Matthew 6:34

Psalm 139: 13-18

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

17 How precious to [a] me are your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!

18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake,
I am still with you.

Intro...

Well... Walker baby #2... also know as... bean, thing #2, has started its journey here to our family... making us a family of 4 most likely in  late May/early June 2012!

We got our first postive pregnancy test on 9/22/11... early thursday morning around 4:30am... I had to PEE!
It's a light line... but a line none the least! I was still two days away from my period.
Clint was leaving that day to go to a conference in Witchita, so he was awoken by a pleasant surprise that we were pregnant before heading out for the weekend!

We are excited to be cook'in #2 and pray for a happy and healthy 8 months to come!!!
